The Blue Hour

I once
somewhere read
that the vast majority of people
regardless of torments
of insomnia
or night shifts
or anxieties
or miserable colds
or heartaches
are sound asleep
at 4am.

Not before
or much after
but just
right then.

There is
your comfort.
4am
always comes. You
and all your
fellow sufferers
turn over
on your left side pull the
blankets
to your liking stretch
your legs and slide
your hand
under your pillow or
your cheek
and prepare
to dream
of each other

relief
now somehow
and inevitably
come to all.

Oddly I was awake from 3:00 to at least 4:10.

I was hoping my child was alive in her bed.

I was hoping my wife loved me.

Wondering when I will die.
